The Dance of Anger
This is one of the best self-improvement books I've read in a long time. Dr. Lerner's writing style is readable and accessible; with her generous use of examples, it's easy to see yourself in the various patterns she describes.
While this book is primarily written for women, I think it touches on a truth so deep and human that anyone can benefit from reading it. The book discusses how anger is expressed either passively or aggressively, neither of which is helpful. She also writes compellingly about how anger is really a signal that our sense of self is being compromised.
The various chapters that follow outline how the dance of anger unfolds in our most important relationships, from romantic relationships, "first family" relationships (parents and siblings), and work relationships. Most importantly, she provides tips for getting out of the dance of anger, and uses helpful examples for how to do just that. By learning to communicate more assertively, and defining a stronger sense of self, your relationships can improve dramatically. I highly recommend this book for anyone who struggles with anger, whether it's suppressed or overt.

Breaking Free from Emotional Eating
Geneen Roth's "Breaking Free from Emotional Eating" is a wonderful resource for anybody who suffers from emotional eating. This book is one of her classics, and is probably the most well-known on the topic. In it, she not only discusses the various causes and issues associated with emotional eating, but provides practical support and suggestions for dealing with it. Her style is honest and direct, and she goes from being wickedly funny to heart-wrenchingly emotional. A great introduction to emotional eating and its management.
