Services

You can finally stop the endless cycle of dieting and regain control of your emotions!

I offer therapy on an individual basis. Individual therapy helps you heal your hunger with a treatment program that is designed just for you.  Together, we explore what brought you to me in the first place, discuss where you want to go, and determine how best to get there.  My approach is flexible, so that if our goals change, so does our work together.  I provide you with a warm, supportive atmosphere, which allows us to do our best work together.

As a result of working with me, you can expect to:

* Stop dieting once and for all
* Break free from compulsive eating or an addiction to comfort foods
* Lose weight or maintain your weight
* Prevent or improve weight-related health problems
* Feel good about yourself
* Gain self-confidence
* Become comfortable with your body and your appearance
* Regain control of your emotions
* Learn to cope with difficult situations in your life
* Feel more energetic
* Create a sense of purpose and direction in your life
* Find joy and pleasure in something other than food
* Improve your relationships
* Discover who you are and what makes you happy

How Therapy Works

Before the first appointment, I will send you a client welcome package. This will provide you with some basic information about my policies, and will help prepare you for our work together.  There will be some forms to fill out, which will streamline the administrative process and save us time during the first session.

During our first appointment, I will conduct an intake interview. I will ask you a series of questions so that I may find out more about you and your background.  This interview may take one or two sessions, and is designed to help me understand you better and to help me decide how our work should proceed.  I will also ask you what you hope to get out of our work together, and together we will establish some preliminary treatment goals.

The first phase of therapy is a getting-to-know-you process. We probably won’t spend much time talking about your weight or your eating habits, since the focus will be on exploring some of the issues that contribute to your emotional hunger.  After about a month or so, the core issues will start to emerge and we can begin the next phase of therapy.

The second phase of therapy will focus on working through your core issues. This may involve healing past hurts, facing difficult thoughts and feelings about yourself or others, developing new skills, learning to cope with difficult situations in your life, or changing some unhelpful beliefs that you hold about yourself.  Each session is devoted to what you feel is most important for you to talk about, and I will guide the discussion with questions and statements to help clarify your thoughts and feelings.

The last phase of therapy will help you decide how to achieve fulfillment in your life. Perhaps you’ll have already made some great changes in your life, or maybe you’re not sure where to go next.  Together, we’ll explore your unique talents, strengths and dreams to help you create a life filled with meaning, purpose and satisfaction.  By this point, you’ll be ready to tackle your eating habits and attitudes toward food.  With renewed strength and purpose, you’ll have the emotional skills and resources to focus on developing healthier habits.  However, you may find that as a result of our work together, the weight won’t even be an issue anymore!

Sessions and Fees

Sessions last 50 minutes and take place on a weekly basis. Telephone sessions are possible in case of an emergency; the fee will be prorated based on the amount of time we speak.

All fees are payable by cash or cheque at the beginning of every session. I offer receipts for insurance; please check if your plan covers the services of a psychotherapist or naturopath (I am a member of the Academy of Naturopaths and Naturotherapists; A.N.N.).  If you are experiencing financial difficulties, we can discuss a fee reduction as I offer a limited number of spots on a sliding scale.

If you think that you might be interested in my services, please call (514) 963-4814 or click here to find out how to contact me.
